Your router is your main gateway for your entire network and is extremely important. If your router is not working adequately, your internet speed may be reduced or become unreliable.
Using a router that is certified to perform at the full speed of your purchased internet service is very important so you don't artificially slow down your internet with poor router equipment.
We include WiFi routers with all residential internet accounts. Tekify's Managed Router Service is also available to our business subscribers for a minimal fee.
Placing your WiFi router in a central location to ensure adequate WiFi coverage is critical to ensure WiFi reliability. WiFi routers should be placed away from microwaves, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, metal doors, and any other large metal objects that block WiFi signals.

Yes. WiFi is currently only capable of approximately 3–400Mbps at best. A hardwired ethernet connection between your computer and router will provide the most speed, typically up to 1,000Mbps. WiFi is also highly variable and can experience service slowdowns and interruptions when interference is present in your area.
We strongly recommend hardwiring your computer whenever possible to ensure the best performance. Tekify measures performance of the hardwired ethernet connection provided at the router, not the WiFi connection.

People often confuse Megabits (Mb) and Megabytes (MB). There are 8 Megabits in 1 Megabyte.
Internet service is sold in Megabits-per-second (Mbps). Examples include 100Mbps, 500Mbps, and 1,000Mbps.
Some websites and software show speeds in Megabytes instead of Megabits, leading to confusion due to the different measurement scale being used.

Internet-of-things, or IOT, is a general term used to describe small devices that connect to the internet for the purpose of enabling, controlling, or monitoring something. These are usually wireless devices that don't use much bandwidth.

Our residential fiber internet services usually experiences latency of less than 5 milliseconds (5ms) across the entire Tekify network.
Our residential wireless internet services usually experience latency of less than 20 milliseconds (20ms) across the entire Tekify network.
These low latency metrics are great for demanding applications including gaming and streaming. Using WiFi within your home adds anywhere from 10 to 50ms of additional latency. For demanding applications, a hardwired ethernet connection between your computer and router is recommended.
